The automatic transmission gearbox differential assembly, which was jointly developed by Audi and Luk, is the innovative successor of previous CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) systems. This development provides a seamless transmission as well as an additive performance map adjustment to achieve the ideal/optimal power transmission with regard to acceleration, transmission mechanics and energy consumption.

The key elements of the multitronic gearbox are the variator employing a dual-piston system and a steel link-plate chain, the multi-disc clutch and the gearbox control.
